Kathleen Turton is a highly skilled family law mediator, negotiator, and advisor, named a “Rising Star” in 2008 by Super Lawyers, published in Texas Monthly. Prior to forming Ward & Turton in partnership with Lynn Ward, Kathleen served as Director of the W.W. Caruth, Jr. Child Advocacy Clinic at SMU Dedman School of Law in Dallas. In this position, Kathleen supervised and trained student attorneys to represent children as court-appointed Guardians and Attorneys ad Litem; provided continuing legal education to lawyers and social workers in the child welfare field; and hosted roundtable discussions with the aim of improving the lives of children in the foster care system.
Before joining SMU, Kathleen practiced family law with the law firm of Keane, Fowler & Donohue and was an Adjunct Faculty Member at El Centro College in Dallas. Kathleen received a B.S. in Microbiology, with special honors, from the University of Texas, and worked for several years at the Texas Department of Health before attending law school. She received her law degree from SMU Dedman School of Law.
Kathleen is also a member of the Dallas Bar Association, the Annette Stewart American Inns of Court, the American Inns of Court Program Awards Committee, Attorneys Serving the Community, SMU Women’s Club, and the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program. She is a frequent speaker on family law and alternative dispute resolution issues. Kathleen lives in Dallas with her husband, their newborn daughter, and three dogs (her advice: “Never get three dogs!”). She enjoys scuba diving, traveling, her sweet baby and taking care of her three dogs.
